In an attempt to keep up with current trends, many major corporations (Microsoft, IBM, Facebook) and famous educational institutes are starting to launch research groups on blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Here are 3 recent collaborations on crypto-studies:
Stanford University and The Ethereum Foundation
On June 20th Stanford computer scientists’ department announced the launch of Center for Blockchain Research. The main goal is to research and understand such a promising technology. The Centre first 5 years of operation will be sponsored by The Ethereum Foundation, Protocol Labs, the Interchain Foundation, OmiseGO, DFINITY Stiftung and PolyChain Capital.
Chinese Academy of Sciences and Tai Cloud Corp
Almost simultaneously with Stanford, a Chinese Academy of Sciences announced launching its own Big Data and Blockchain Lab in collaboration with blockchain startup Tai Cloud Corp. Similar to Stanford, the Chinese laboratory plans to attract students to work and focus on creating mathematical models for a better understanding of technology.
McCombs School of Business and Ripple
Earlier this month Ripple has announced large initiative of spending more than $50 mln on funding 17 universities to help developing the crypto industry in the academic environment. The McCombs School of Business at UT already revealed receiving $2 million from Ripple for the next five years to fund research at the institution’s Blockchain Initiative program.
So it’s official: both business and the academic worlds are getting real about blockchain.
The more interesting it is to observe and tell you about what is happening. Stay tuned!
